Dear
Film Maker:
The State of Baja California offers a diversity of urban and rural
landscapes, cosmopolitan cities, colorful towns, beaches and bays
on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California, deserts,
mountains, and lush wine growing valleys; in short, a cornucopia
of scenery for every kind of moviemaking, along with sites of cultural
interest harmoniously combined with the warmth and hospitality of
our people.
The efforts of authorities at all three levels of government (federal,
state and municipal) including specialists in tourism, professionals
and technicians, have contributed significantly in recent years
to the growth of the movie industry in Baja California, bringing
in millions of dollars of movie related investments to film more than a hundred movies, including such
outstanding features as "Titanic", "Deep Blue Sea",
"Pearl Harbor", "Ocean Oasis", “Master and commander: the far side of the world”, “Jarhead”, “Borderland”, “The dead and life of Boby Z”, “Resident evil 3” and the Oscar nominee “Babel”, plus made for
television programming by major networks such as Univision, Telemundo,
Televisa, TV Azteca, BBC of London, The Travel Channel, The Discovery
Channel, MTV, and a host of TV commercials for world-renowned brands.
Given the importance
of the movie industry for Baja California, the State Film Commission
(Comisión Estatal de Filmaciones) was created to attend to
the needs and to promote the great potential of this industry in
our State. The commission provides a variety of services to assist
film production companies, and it supports outreach programs to
raise the community's level of awareness about filmmaking activities.
It has worked to facilitate investments in theme parks and film
production studios by movie companies from developed countries,
thereby contributing significantly to the realization of movie industry
projects that create jobs, increase foreign revenues, and promote
tourism in the state.
It is my pleasure to invite you to familiarize yourself with the
diversity of locations that our state offers, and I am pleased to
take this opportunity to urge you to select Baja California for
your next film project!
